When the temperature rises, we all want to show a bit more skin. Even if you look forward to banishing the knitwear in favor of tank tops and sundresses, we can all admit to feeling a bit of sun-induced panic – if we bare all, is our skin summer ready? Just as you switch your clothes once the temperature starts to rise, you may want to consider making a few swaps to your skincare products. Even if you don’t plan to strut around in a bikini, you still want your arms, shoulders, back, and legs to look soft and sun-kissed. Luckily it only takes a little extra minute from your everyday routine to get your skin into shape.

Here are seven tips to help you prep your skin before heading to the beach this summer:
1. Exfoliate

To make your skin look brighter, you need to exfoliate. Doing so, it will remove your dead skin, which if left untreated, can dull your complexion. Use an exfoliating scrub that uses natural ingredients. You’ll be giving your skin a fresh look and feel, whilst avoiding harmful parabens too.

Tip – Apply the exfoliating scrub all over your face and body using circular motions. Doing so at least twice a week throughout the summer will keep your skin in tip-top condition and will also prevent sunscreen oil from clogging your pores.

2. Moisturise

In the colder weather and spring months, you may find yourself looking for a richer cream to help your skin hydrated. But when it’s warmer outside, you may find that a lightweight face lotion is all you need. An added bonus to a good exfoliation routine is that your skin is more receptive to a moisturizer. This is a good thing in the summer as your skin will require all the hydration it can get to help in its battle against the sun. By quenching your skin’s thirst with moisturizers, especially after exfoliation, you’ll give your skin a natural softness. Not just this, moisturizing your skin will have the added bonus of locking in your tan for longer.

3. Shave and Shower, correctly

Nobody likes razor-burn, so combat it by changing your blades regularly. It’s also a good idea to keep your shaves short. Long, hot shaves dry out the skin – instead, use lukewarm water and finish with a cool, refreshing skin to close the pores.

4. Always Protect From the Sun, Always!

We like to tan but only a fool doesn’t take precautions to guard against the sun. After all, nobody finds sunburnt skin sexy, so make sure you slap on the sun-cream and cover up well. You can also fake a summer tan by using a self-tanner. To find your ideal self-tanner formula, start by asking yourself what kind of coverage you want. But that’s not all, in addition to wearing broad-spectrum sunscreen, make sure to reapply every two hours, wear a broad trimmed hat on the beach and UV- blocking sunglasses is a must.
